The Joy Of Fellowship

The Man who walks close to God will leave no room for the devil to come between.

1 John 1

Fellowship with God is the most blessed experience known to man. And no wonder, for it brings lasting peace and refreshment to the most weary soul. In his book The Roots of Righteousness, A.W. Tozer described it well in a chapter entitled "The Winsomeness of God." He wrote, "The fellowship of God is delightful beyond all telling. He communes with His redeemed ones in an easy, uninhibited fellowship that is restful and healing to the soul. He is not sensitive nor selfish nor temperamental. What He is today we shall find Him tomorrow and the next day and the next year. He is not hard to please, though He may be hard to satisfy. He expects of us only what He has Himself supplied. He is quick to mark every simple effort to please Him, and just as quick to overlook imperfections when He knows we meant to do His will. He loves us for ourselves and values our love more than galaxies of new created world."

Are you longing for that kind of satisfying walk with God? Then follow these simple guidelines found in the first epistle of John. He tells us to walk in light (1:6-7); never say you are sinless (1:8); keep Christ's commands (2:4); love your brothers (2:10,11); and love not the world (2:15-17). Use David's prayers, "Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts; and see if there be any wicked way in me" (Psalm 139:23,24), and "Create in me a clean heart, O God (Psalm 51:10). These words can open the door to the joy of fellowship with God, and with His Son Jesus Christ.

                                    Walk in the light! So shall you know
                                    That fellowship of love
                                    His Spirit only can bestow,
                                   Who reigns in love above.
