The PhilID issued by the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) has been recognized as the Best New National ID Card by a global consultancy firm. Granted by Reconnaissance International through the High Security Printing (HSP) Asia Conference’s Regional Banknote and ID Document of the Year Awards in Sri Lanka, the award recognizes the “outstanding achievement and technical sophistication of a personal identification or travel document.”
The award also cites PhilSys as a foundational digital identification system for exemplifying “the best in system infrastructure and implementation of a government passport, identity or other secure identification scheme.” “We, at the PSA, welcome the recognition and take it as an affirmation of the efforts to establish and implement PhilSys,” said Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General. “Inaanyayahan namin ang ating mga kababayan na mag-register na sa PhilSys at maging bahagi ng Makabagong Pilipinas.” Established in 2018, PhilSys is the single national identification system for all Filipino citizens and resident aliens. It aims to provide a valid proof of identity to registered persons, including the PhilSys Number (PSN) or the 12-digit permanent identification number, and the PhilID or the non-transferrable physical ID card. The valid proof of identity provided by PhilSys is a means of simplifying public and private transactions, and is a social and economic platform that promotes seamless social service delivery and strengthens financial inclusion for both public and private services. PhilSys is also seen as a driver of digital transformation in the delivery of services and in the transition to a digital economy, including enabling presenceless, paperless, and cashless transactions. As of 01 December 2023, a total of 82,376,148 Filipinos have successfully registered to PhilSys, while PSNs generated is at 79,635,300. In addition, a total of 48,468,858 PhilIDs have been dispatched for delivery—of which, 45,173,021 have been delivered. 50M PhilIDs Printed, Dispatched for Delivery The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has successfully printed and dispatched over 50 million PhilIDs for Filipinos who have registered to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys). As of 22 December 2023, 50,064,756 PhilIDs have already been printed and dispatched for delivery. “More and more Filipinos can now enjoy the benefits of being PhilSys-registered. We encourage our kababayans to fully utilize the PhilID and make it their primary ID in their transactions,” said PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General. “We would also like to assure the public that we will continue to expedite the issuance and delivery of PhilIDs so that Filipinos can enjoy the convenience of having a valid ID in their transactions,” he added. Parallel to PhilID printing and delivery, the PSA is also exhausting all means to register the last mile of the population. Through mobile registration efforts, PSA personnel are ensuring coverage of Filipinos residing in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs). For instance, the PSA implemented the PhilSys on Wheels, where vehicles carrying registration kits are brought to GIDAs to register residents on the spot. In addition, registration centers nationwide welcome walk-in registrations. The full list of registration centers is available at https://philsys.gov.ph/registration-center/ and the accepted supporting documents at https://philsys.gov.ph/supporting-documents/. As of 08 December 2023, a total of 82,569,212 Filipinos have already registered to PhilSys. Filipinos who have registered to PhilSys may also check if their ePhilID is already available for claiming at https://appt.philsys.gov.ph.
