God's Enablement

You may not be a superstar. Your talents may be few. But God in His enablement will show His power through you!

Judges 6:1-16

Author Gary Inrig tells an amusing story of a man who went to a psychiatrist and complained about an inferiority complex. The doctor listened to him for a while, then gave him a good/bad news diagnosis: "The good news," said the doctor, "is that you don't have a complex. The bad news is --- you are inferior!"

Now, Gideon certainly appeared to be inferior from all outward indications. He didn't seem a likely candidate for national leadership when the Lord spoke to him. Afraid of the Midianites, he tried to remain unnoticed as he threshed a few sheaves of wheat in a wine press under a tree. He surely had no thoughts of leading  the Israelites to a military victory over the invaders. But the Lord called him to a task that required great courage and leadership. He pushed aside Gideon's protest of inadequacy by saying, "Go in this thy might...Have not I sent thee?" He would equip His servant for the assignment. Gideon's responsibility was simply to obey God.

The Lord often enables His servants to perform at a level far beyond their natural abilities. He has made effective church leaders and teachers out of people who never dreamed they could do the job. For this reason, we must not let feelings of inferiority get us down. God places as much value upon the person with limited talents as He does upon the most gifted. Of this you may be sure: He has a special niche for you to fill. Ask Him to help you to be what He wants you to be and do what He wants you to do. The same God who enabled Gideon will enable you.
