Beware Of These Bank Scams

Don't let scammers access your Online Banking account!

Beware of scammers offering to help you with your online banking account. Scammers are offering to help or assist account holders in opening an online banking account in the hopes of getting direct access to their bank account. ​Here are the details of how the scammers do it:

​​If you don't have an Online Banking account yet
​

• Scammers will encourage you to open an online banking account and offer you promos, a double-chip card, waived annual fee, or rebates.
• They will call and offer to help you sign up, but instead, use their contact details so they can access your account later on. They will generate an ATM activation code which they will ask you to enter through the ATM so they can get full access to your account.
• Once they get access, you will not get transaction notifications anymore because they're already using their contact details.

If you have an Online Banking account

• Scammers may try to take over your account through email or phone scam. They will offer you account enhancements, higher daily transfer limiti, or stronger account security.
• Scammer will trick you into allowing a third-party account to be enrolled to your online banking account through ATM activation.
• Once this is done, they will be able to fully take over your account and steal your money.

Take Note!

Don't instantly fall for promising rewards or account upgrade offers. Remember that banks will never ask you to activate your online banking account via ATM to claim rewards or upgrade your account. ATM activation is required only when you initiate the online banking or third-party account enrollment yourself.​​

Banks will never ask you through call or text to verify your account, especially to claim rewards or upgrades.

Beware of the Password Reset Scam

Scammers ask bank clients like you for their online banking username so they can reset the password and gain access to the account. ​Here are the details of how the scammers do it:

• A scammer calls to ask for your online banking username and the last four digits of your card or account, saying it's for an ongoing security enhancement. This info they'll need to reset your password.
• The scammer uses the information they got to reset the password to your online banking account. They will also ask for the OTP (One-Time PIN), which will allow them to complete the password reset.
• After changing your password, the scammer logs in to your account and transfers money to their accounts.

Take Note!

​Do not share your online banking username, OTP, and password with anyone. Bank Officers will never ask for your username, OTP, and password.

​Do not engage with the scammer. Be smarter than a scammer.

​Banks will never ask for your username, password, and OTP.
Banks wil never send links that ask for your information.
Banks will never ask you to verify your account.
Banks will never ask for your credit card number and expiry date, CVV, and OTP to verify online shopping transactions.
