The Philippine Stock Exchange, Inc. (PSE) has been made aware of the resurgence of a fraudulent investment scheme that uses the name and logo of the Exchange in fabricated documents that certify stock ownership and demand fees for the release of capital gains. This scam, which is perpetrated in Australia, was first reported to PSE in 2019. The Exchange issued an advisory on this on October 14, 2019, which can be viewed through this link: 2019 Advisory on Unauthorized use of PSE name and logo
The Exchange coordinated with the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) on the re-emergence of the said scam. They likewise reconfirmed that the PDIC details contained in the fabricated document are not official information. PSE reiterates that these documents were not issued or released by the Exchange. PSE does not maintain records of legal and/or beneficial owners of listed companies. As such, it is not authorized to provide information on or certify stock ownership. Based on the foregoing, PSE disclaims any obligation or liability for decisions made or action taken based on fraudulent communications that use the PSE’s name and logo. The Exchange strongly advises individuals to be cautious and verify the legitimacy of any documents or requests that claim affiliation with the PSE. If names of individuals are indicated on documents, it would be prudent to get in touch with the company they are supposedly connected with to ascertain their affiliation. Check the contact details used such as the office address, e-mail address, telephone number to determine whether these information are accurate and official. Immediately inform the PSE if you have been shown these fake letters or have reason to believe that you are being defrauded with potential stock market investment scams. To report suspected unauthorized use of PSE’s name, logo, and contact information or to verify claims and report potential fraudulent acts, please call (+632) 8876-4888 or send an e-mail to [email protected].
