The Financial Sector Forum (FSF) has launched the 2025 “Protect Your Money” (PYM) information campaign to empower financial consumers and combat scams. The launch was held on 17 June 2025 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) head office in Manila. The campaign, with the tagline, “I am a smart financial consumer,” will share essential financial insights across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, text messages, radio, printed materials in high-traffic areas, and even ATM machines. It will feature practical guides for safe transactions, red flags for financial scams, and redress options.
FSF members including the BSP, Insurance Commission (IC), Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC), and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will each take on specific roles in implementing the campaign. According to BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, chairperson of FSF’s Consumer Protection and Education Committee, “this campaign is in response to the rapidly evolving digital financial landscape. By strengthening awareness of our rights and responsibilities as financial consumers, we empower individuals to guard themselves against scammers and fraudsters.” “The objective is simple but clear – to enable Filipinos to confidently say ‘I am a smart financial consumer.’ A Filipino who knows the rights, risks and options that are available,” said BSP Monetary Board Member (MBM) Jose L. Querubin who represented BSP Governor and FSF Chairman Eli M. Remolona, Jr. during the launch. BSP Deputy Governor Chuchi G. Fonacier, alternate to Governor Remolona as FSF chair, added, “We are proud to support the refreshed PYM campaign—now sharper, more digital, and more relevant than ever. It unites our efforts to educate, empower, and protect every Filipino.” Since its introduction in 2013, the PYM has expanded to address new fraud risks using tools like the Financial Products and Services Consumer Protection Act (FCPA) and the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA). It focuses on financially underserved Filipinos, including retirees and overseas Filipinos (OFs), by delivering information through new platforms. The launch included a symbolic “turning of the key” ceremony with Deputy Governors Fonacier and Romulo-Puyat, PDIC President Roberto B. Tan and Corporate Affairs Vice President Jose G. Villaret, Jr., SEC Assistant Director Paolo R. Cruz, and IC representative Atty. Juan Paolo P. Roxas. In a recorded message, SEC Chair Francis Ed. Lim vowed to fully support the implementation of the PYM campaign, saying that is “a signal of our mutual resolve to create a more secure financial environment where fraud finds no safe harbor.” PDIC President Tan said that the PDIC will champion the initiative’s drive to educate Filipinos, saying that “the first line of defense will always be a well-informed depositor or financial consumer.” Meanwhile, IC Commissioner Reynaldo A. Regalado, in his own recorded speech, committed to protecting Filipino consumers through digitally charged innovations as the country moves towards a “brighter financial future for all.” Other officials who attended the launch ceremony include MBM Romeo L. Bernardo and BSP Assistant Governor Lyn I. Javier.
